Post 2: My Life Soundtrack

My whole life has been surrounded by 70's and 80’s music, because I share the same taste of music that my mom has, we both love rock music. She was the one who showed me the most important band of my life: “Queen”. And since that day my life changed completely.

But Queen wasn't the first music from those decades that I ever heard.  So let's start with the beginning of everything. As I said before, my mother is a rock fan, her favorite band is Rush, instead, my father loves electronic music, but they are both fans of The Cure and Depeche Mode. When I was about three or four years old, that was all I used to listen to, because my dad played their music every time I was in his car.

Years later, when I was nine, my mom brought to our house a CD of Queen's greatest hits. Since that day I stopped listening to anything somebody else put on the radio or whatever was popular at that time. Since that day, I was the person who put the music on the car. The first step, was to listen to the whole Queen discography. My opinion of their music hasn't changed at all, I still think that the 70's albums are the best. Then I started to search for more of this kind of music.

My love for rock music increased and I started to listen to rock subgenres and heavy metal. At first, it was all about hard rock and  Guns N'Roses for me, but then,  I discovered Heavy Metal. Megadeth was the band that introduced me to that world and by the age of thirteen, I was one of their hugest fans. Then the same thing with the subgenres happened to me, but now with metal, so I became obsessed with bands as Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Death, etc.

Black Sabbath, as the parents of this music genre, became my idols, especially their first singer, Ozzy Osbourne, who isn't much of a life example to follow (hahaha), but has an amazing solo career.  I used to listen to “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary of a Madman” for an entire day when I was thirteen. I still think that those albums are masterpieces. Heavy metal changed my life too, because like every metalhead says: “It's not just a music genre, it's a lifestyle”, we even have a dress code.

When I remember that time of my life, middle school, it isn't just about metal, it is also about, sharing music with my closest friends. One of my favorite rock bands from the seventies alongside Queen is Led Zeppelin, because I think that Robert Plant´s voice and John Bonham's drumming style are unique. But what I had in particular about Zeppelin, is that it is the only band that was recommended to me by a friend, well, of course I knew them before, Who doesn't? But I didn’t notice how awesome they were until my very special friend was so impressed by their music, that she talked a lot about how great and influential they were. When I listen to Led Zeppelin´s song “The Lemon Song” I feel like I am traveling back to 1969, my dream becomes true in a spiritual way, something similar happens to me with The Doors.

I love music, so there are lots of bands that are very meaningful to me, but I couldn’t name them all, because I would be talking for an hour. I wish I was born before, during the sixties, so I could at least see one of my favorite bands live in their best times.
